God or Devil?
June 17, 2009 at 8:19 pm | In Uncategorized | 5 CommentsThere is a movie called Aalanvandhan (Abhay in hindi), starring kamal hassan which made more news about his beefed up body than the actual movie itself which sank without a trace. He plays a dual role, one representing the god and the other, devil, with the actual thought process being to reflect the two sides that coexist in each individual. There is a civil side in every person which learns and adapts to the societal discipline and there is a wild side which is destructive but buried. The destructive side is more opportunistic and is usually triggered by power. The power to which the civil side has always bowed down to. The inhibitions, the limitations, the rules etc if suddenly removed from life, would yield an irrestible indulgence. It could be as small as shouting on your parents coz you can, or breaking a traffic signal coz you can get away with it or cheating on a partner coz he wouldnt know.
Before you think what all this crap is about, I had the opportunity of observing certain happenings that made me think about all this, and most importantly check if any such power corrupts me too. Realized that my civil side is wild enough
Probably lincoln was right when he said, “To test the true character of a man, give him power!”

Power has everything it takes to corrupt an individual- only one thing that can stand strong or match up to power is values and upbringing of a person… the ‘little devil’ in me does try to deviate me at times ( even if it means loosing my cool over the cook at home).. I mean we all do it, at some point or the other. The point is to realize that I do have power to do certain things but there are some who have it more than me. Like my Mom
- who makes it a point to bring me back to Earth when she feels I am flying a little to high with my ‘Power Wings’.
I agree with her, after all, I am no bird & if I flap my wings too much I am bound to fall flat on the ground. While if I take small flights, I enjoy the power of flying yet I am close to the ground ‘realities’.
Crap: am I making sense…?!? BTW that movie Abhay- is one horribly boring movie- yeh, have seen it too!

U made perfect sense pallavi…but it is when you dont have these power control knobs, when hell breaks loose i guess…and again, even i think it is universal to an extent that it gets necessary for survival and an aspiration to achieve !

Every person has power in one way or the other…
So those who cannot show their power to their superiors or peers in the office, like to take it off some where else, and it comes to their close ones…
As you said it can be shouting at his parents/partners/friends or any one with who he feels comfortable.
What determines a person is his attitude and character… It has the power to over come the POWER that you are referring to.
and now all the adages come to my mind… :-/
One more thing….Ranjith….
I think you should have a disclaimar.. some thing like
Reading this blog might make you more philosophical

@ ranjith… I think we all have power control knobs in our lives and they can function just fine and in time if we believe in them… of course these knobs should be only to keep a check on us and not overpower us
